BEIRUT (AP) — The American Embassy in Lebanon says the USA has delivered laser-guided rockets valued at greater than $sixteen million to the Lebanese military.

In a press release, it says the rockets delivered Wednesday are a key element for a fleet of A-29 Tremendous Tucano assault aircraft beforehand delivered. The delivery demonstrates the U.S. authorities’s “agency and steady commitments” to help the Lebanese army in its capacity because the “sole, reputable defender of Lebanon.”

The reference seemed to be aimed on the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, which has an arsenal that rivals that of the Lebanese army and dominates the country’s politics.

Iranian Overseas Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif provided his country’s army help to Lebanon throughout a visit this week, but stated the Lebanese authorities needed to show “a want” to simply accept it first.
