KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Independence man has been discovered responsible of homicide in connection with a deadly 2018 capturing within the parking zone of Independence Middle mall.
A Jackson County jury discovered Tyler Gates guilty of second-degree murder and armed legal action Thursday.
In January 2018, police responded to Independence middle on a reported capturing. Officers found the victim, 17-yr-previous Matthew Haylock, laying in the parking zone, affected by gunshot wounds.
Based on the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Workplace, a witness advised police Gates and Haylock have been within the car within the mall’s parking zone. The witness stated Gates pointed a gun at Haylock and then the witness heard a gunshot.
Gates allegedly asked for assist to push Haylock out of the car earlier than leaving the parking zone. The car was later discovered with handguns inside and blood within the backseat.
The jury advisable that Gates serve a sentence of 20 years on the homicide charge and seven years for armed felony motion.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Aug 14.
