BATON ROUGE – With summer time coming soon, the Baton Rouge Police Division is bringing new basketball objectives to the area people.
The first basketball objective can be going up at the Choctaw Lodge Flats in North Baton Rouge.
BRPD Officer Deena Weissberg got here up with the thought, referred to as “Badges for Basketball Hoops.” This system will probably be placing movable basketball hoops in neighborhoods the place crime sometimes spikes over the summer time.
Weissberg noted that she saw too many basketball objectives going unused and noticed this as a perfect opportunity to bridge the hole between the “805” group and the police division, particularly for boys like Nathaniel Poindexter.
Poindexter, a resident within the Choctaw Lodge Flats, is wanting forward to with the ability to improve his recreation with ball handling and free throws. His mom, Penny Poindexter, also thinks the basketball program is a good idea for the group.
Residents aren’t the one ones excited for the brand new addition to the condominium complicated. The condominium supervisor, Shawna Ritter, jumped on the thought when she heard about this system.
Officer Weissberg hopes that these hoops will begin to pop up everywhere in the country.
“I am hoping that it spreads,” Weissberg stated. “I feel that this one thing that can benefit the police departments throughout the country.”
